What's inside the A1 course

By the end of your A1 course, you’ll be able to:

01

Introduce Yourself

02

Ask and answer very basic personal questions

This moves the conversation beyond just yourself. You will learn how to ask others about their age, family, hobbies, and where they live, as well as how to answer those same questions. It focuses heavily on mastering simple question words like quién (who), qué (what), dónde (where), and cuántos (how many).

03

Understand short, slow, simple speech

This is your entry into listening comprehension. At this stage, you aren't expected to understand rapid native conversations. Instead, you will practice catching key words, numbers, prices, and times when a sympathetic speaker is talking directly to you slowly, clearly, and using familiar everyday vocabulary.

04

Use basic Spanish in shops, restaurants, taxis, and on the street

This is where your skills get practical for travel. You will learn the highly specific "scripted" phrases needed to get by in public spaces. Shops: Asking for prices (“¿Cuánto cuesta?”) and paying. Restaurants: Ordering food and asking for the bill (“La cuenta, por favor”). Taxis & Streets: Asking for directions, understanding "left" and "right," and telling a driver where you need to go.

This covers basic literacy in your new language. For reading, you will practice extracting key info from signs, menus, posters, and simple postcards. For writing, you will learn to fill out basic forms (like a hotel registration) and write short, simple notes or text messages to friends.
